Unterfranken, Bayern, Germany, on the 08 June, 1838. He married Margareta Berthold on 16 May, 1865. This was Margareta second marriage. Together they had two sons Josef and Sebastian. After Margareta died in 1865, he married Kunigunde Berthold on 08 August, 1871 in Großlangheim, Germany. Together they had four children John, Michael, Elizabeth and Georg. Margareta and Kunigunde Berthold were sisters and daughters of Matthias Berthold and Barbara Pfannes. Margareta Berthold first marriage was to Johannes Sterk, they had four children together, Georg, Anonymus, Johann and Regina.
Nikolaus left Germany and came to the United States with Kunigunda
(Berthold), Elizabeth and Georg. They came about October of 1890. Joseph, Sebastian and Valentin came to USA prior to that time.
When he first arrived, he lived in Harlem, Illinois and worked as a laborer at Forest Home Cemetery. Came to Harrison, Michigan around 1900. Nikolaus lived in Harrison, until Kunigunda, his wife died. He than return to join his son Joseph and family in Oak Park (formerly known as Harlem), Illinois, where he died on the 06 September, 1931, at
the age of 92 yrs. Nikolaus Pfannes is buried in Forest Home Cemetery, 863 South Des Plaines Ave., Forest Park, IL 60130, Lot 68 Section 43. Kunigunde (Berthold) Pfannes is buried in St. Athanasius Cemetery, Harrison, MI.
